In-Home Euthanasia

Our veterinarian will visit your home to provide a peaceful and compassionate goodbye for your beloved pet. In the comfort of familiar surroundings, your pet will receive a relaxing, pain-relieving sedative to ensure they are completely at ease. Once your pet is calm and comfortable, a second medication will be administered, allowing them to pass away peacefully and without pain. If desired, service includes a complimentary clay pawprint and a lock of your pet's fur.

You may choose to handle your pet’s body care arrangements personally or select from our cremation options that we can coordinate for you. See more information on our Aftercare Services tab.

While our veterinarian typically provides this service for dogs and cats, if you have another type of small pet, please reach out to see if we may be of assistance.

Aftercare Coordination

At Kindred Journey Veterinary End-of-Life Care, we understand how overwhelming it can be to navigate the logistics of aftercare for your beloved pet during such a difficult time. To support you, we offer aftercare coordination services for a fee of $50. This service includes respectfully transporting your beloved pet out of your home and coordinating arrangements with a trusted crematory. We are able to coordinate services through Cooke Pet Crematorium or Faithful Friends Memory Gardens & Crematorium.

If you choose cremation for your beloved pet, you have two different options:

Private Cremation: Your pet is cremated individually, and their ashes are returned to you in a complimentary urn as a lasting keepsake. Your pet's ashes will be returned to your regular veterinarian's office or may be picked up at the crematory's office.
Communal cremation: Your pet will be cremated alongside other cherished pets. Your pets ashes will not be returned to you, but will be respectfully scattered by crematory staff.

If you prefer, you may also contact the crematory of your choice directly to handle transportation and arrangements yourself. We are here to make this process as seamless and compassionate as possible, providing you with peace of mind during a challenging time.

In-Home Hospice & Palliative Care

Our palliative care and hospice visits provide personalized, compassionate support for pets nearing the end of life. During a visit to your home, our veterinarian will assess your pet, discuss your family’s goals, and create a customized care plan to manage pain and enhance comfort. You’ll also receive education on monitoring quality of life and recognizing signs that it may be time to say goodbye.

This initial consultation includes:

A written care plan that will be shared with you and your pet's primary veterinarian.
A 30-minute telehospice recheck appointment, scheduled within the month after the initial visit, to provide additional in-depth support.

Additional rechecks are available as needed and are billed separately.

This service helps you provide comfort, dignity, and love to your pet while receiving guidance and tools to navigate this deeply personal time.

Quality of Life Consultation

Our 50-minute virtual consultations provide compassionate guidance for families facing difficult end-of-life decisions for their pets. Conducted via Google Meet, these sessions are ideal for those who may be struggling with the decision to euthanize their beloved pet or who wish to learn more about end-of-life planning.

While a veterinary-client-patient relationship (VCPR) cannot be established virtually—meaning our veterinarian cannot diagnose your pet, prescribe medications, or otherwise treat your pet —these consultations are a supportive space to discuss your pet’s quality of life, explore options, and gain tools for you to assess their comfort and wellbeing.

Whether your pet is nearing the end or you’re seeking clarity about their care, this service is here to help you make informed, loving choices.

Additional Fees

Aggressive Pets:

For the safety of all involved, additional fees may apply for pets that require extra handling precautions due to aggression. Fees will vary based on the severity of the aggression and the measures needed to ensure a safe and compassionate experience.

Pets Over 100 Pounds:

Additional fees may apply for pets exceeding 100 pounds due to the extra time, resources, and assistance required to provide compassionate and thorough care for larger animals.

After-Hours Appointments:

An additional fee will apply for appointments outside of our regular business hours. Appointments are regularly scheduled Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm.

Holiday Appointments:

An additional fee will apply for appointments scheduled on major holidays.

Extended Travel Fee:

While we generally serve the area up to 50 driving miles from St. Albans, WV, we occasionally may be available to travel outside of this area. If you are outside of our service area, please contact us to discuss pricing and availability.

We accept cash, checks made payable to "Kindred Journey Vet", Zelle, and credit cards payments.

Cancellation Policy:

At Kindred Journey Veterinary End-of-Life Care, we understand how difficult it can be to make end-of-life decisions for your beloved pet. We are here to support you, including if you need to change your mind about an appointment. However, to ensure we can continue to serve all of our clients with the compassion and care they deserve, we kindly ask for your understanding of our cancellation policy:

24-Hour Notice Requested: We kindly ask that you notify us at least 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, so we may offer your appointment time to another family in need.

Late Cancellations: Cancellations made within 2 hours of the scheduled appointment time will incur a fee of $100. If your pet passes naturally during the cancellation window, the late cancellation fee will be waived.
Late Reschedules: If you reschedule within 2 hours of your scheduled appointment time more than three times, a non-refundable deposit of $100 will be required to secure the new appointment time. If the appointment occurs, this deposit will be applied toward your total balance.
No-Shows: If we arrive for your scheduled appointment and you are not home, do not answer the door, or are otherwise not prepared to proceed with the scheduled appointment, the fee will be 50% of the appointment cost, based on the distance and time involved to travel to you.

Credit Card Hold: A credit card will be required to secure your appointment. Your card will only be charged in the event of a late cancellation, no-show, or multiple late reschedules, as described above.
